3rd Annual '08 Deal Island, MD KAYAK event Info & Registration

A 49th Annual Deal Island Skipjack Race & Land Festival event

What: 2 kayak races; 1st: Ring Around the Island loop (approx 10.5 miles) OR 2nd: Harbor~Bay loop course (approx 2.0 miles). Please note: Ring Around the Island loop is for advanced skilled paddlers, only. The Harbor~Bay loop is a fun layout for any & all!

When: Sunday; August 31th w/1st longer loop to start at approximately 1:45pm, 2nd shorter loop to start shortly there after.

Where: Deal Island, Md (from Rte 13 in Princess Anne; turn on Deal Island Rd, travel approx 16 miles to Deal Island bridge.

Individual cash prizes: 1st: $50, 2nd: $35, and 3rd: $25 in 4 divisions with trophies for the top 3 finishers in each division too! The 4 divisions are Women Harbor~Bay, Men Harbor~Bay, Women Ring Around the Island & Men Ring Around the Island loops

Team Competitions: 4 person team w/best cumulative time hoists the Deal Island Cup…& there's no additional fee to enter. Rules: 1. one person of opposite sex as part of foursome. 2. Held during the individual competitions. 3. Eligible for individual prizes too!

Entry Fee: $15 if pre-registered before 8/17/08 OR $20 on day of race. The first 30 entrants receive a free Festival t-shirt. And, you & one (1) companion get free entry in to the main Festival grounds on event day.

Check-in:11:30am to 1pm @ Windsor Marina on Deal Island Rd. Go west on Deal Island Rd from Princess Anne, MD. Marina will be on your left just before the Deal Island bridge. Parking is available here. Note: rides are available for family members &/or friends from Windsor Marina to the start-finish line on Deal Island beach on a 1st come, 1st serve basis.

Rules: 1. If a fellow kayaker needs assistance, assist him or her. 2. Age Limits: 18 yrs or older to participate in the longer loop race. 15 yrs old for shorter loop w/guardian signature. 3. US Coast Guard approved PFD must be worn during the event. 4. Stay hydrated! At check-in time, show us the beverage you will have on the kayak. 5. At check-in time, show us the whistle, flare or other related safety device you will have with you on the kayak.
